Inreach-why-iced-coffee-demand-does-not-end-in-summer

Who doesn’t love a refreshing iced coffee? When the craving hits, nothing else will do. Whether it’s the peak of summer or the dead of winter, when you want an iced coffee, you should have an iced coffee. But for some reason, it’s considered a sunny weather drink.

At InReach, we know that a preferred coffee or snack isn’t season-dependent; it’s a function of mood. This is why our office coffee service includes a full range of choices, from robust dark roasts and espresso-based drinks to decaf, energy drinks, and all the teas. And if you’re craving a pre-fall Pumpkin Spice Draft Latte Cold Brew by La Colombe, we have that too. Better yet, when you download the InReach app, this cold brew is 50 cents off.  Lipton Fusion Passion Fruit Lemonade, Pure Leaf Mental Focus Sparkling Tea and a host of snacks and treats are also on sale through the app.

Is Coffee Demand Seasonal?

It is not.

That’s like asking if French fry demand is seasonal. Coffee demand in the U.S. is at a 20-year high, driven in part by a strong preference for specialty and gourmet drinks. Two-thirds, or 66%, of American adults drink coffee every day. With an average of 3.1 cups consumed daily, that’s around 700 million cups each day here in the States!

In this market, cold coffees are among the fastest-growing categories. Two out of three younger adults drink cold coffee regularly (and when it comes in a can like La Colombe, you can’t beat the convenience). The National Coffee Association reports that past-day consumption of non-espresso specialty beverages such as cold brew, nitro coffee, and frozen blended drinks increased from 12% of American adults in 2020 to 17% in 2025. That is a relative increase of approximately 42%.

Coffee Health Benefits May Play a Role in Demand

Coffee has many health benefits. Research links moderate consumption with improved cognitive function and a lower risk of chronic liver disease and heart disease. The compounds found in coffee have been found to offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, while emerging research is exploring its relationship with the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome.

Caffeinated coffee also increases alertness and helps reduce feelings of fatigue. That can be especially welcome during a long workday or an overnight shift. Providing a range of caffeinated and decaffeinated options allows employees to choose what works for their schedules, preferences, sensitivities, and routines.

The Growing Importance of Coffee Services for the Office

As demand grows for coffee in all its forms, workplace coffee is experiencing an exciting evolution. Gone are the drip machines in the corner of the breakroom, holding the same stale coffee for hours on end.

Employees want a quality cup at work, whether that means hot, cold, decaf, or an espresso-based specialty option. If there’s nothing onsite, they’ll head to a nearby coffee shop to find it. When that happens, productivity is interrupted. And once employees return to their desks, they often need time to transition back into what they were doing.

When employees can stay on-site and grab their preferred drink in the break room, productivity is maintained. They also have a chance to connect with colleagues - informal meetups that can spark creative problem-solving, encourage collaboration, and strengthen workplace camaraderie. This, in turn, is great for your workplace culture and can help support a healthy retention rate, too.
