How Many Vending Machines Do You Need in Your Office?

Some General Guidelines

You can probably guess already that we won’t be able to tell you in this article precisely how many machines you are going to need. There are just too many variables involved to make such a determination. We can, however, outline a general sense of how many vending machines are needed to serve offices of various sizes.

If your office is home to a relatively small workforce of fewer than 50 people, you will likely be served well by just two machines – one for snacks and one for beverages. A quality machine will be able to present a nice variety of snack and drink options without taking up too much of your valuable floor space.

As the size of the office increases (along with the number of employees), more machines are going to be required. For an office of around 50 to 150 employees, it’s likely that two or three small vending machines for offices will fit best. And when the scope of the office goes up to over 150 employees, four or more vending machines may be required to get the job done. Also, for big offices, the placement of the machines will need to be considered more carefully, as distributing them around the building could aid in convenience and utilization.

Consider These Variables

Plenty of factors besides the number of employees will impact how many machines can service the building effectively. These include:

  • Usage Levels: The degree to which vending machines are used in a building can vary from one office to another. If your office happens to be one where people rely heavily on vending machines to get what they need, more machines may be required than what is expected based on size alone.
  • Shift Work: It’s often the case that vending machines will get used a bit more at night than during the day as people look for snacks to get them through the late shift. Of course, if your office is only open during the day, this isn’t a factor that will be relevant.
  • Plans for Growth: If you are operating a business that is in a growth phase and plans to bring in many new people in the months and years ahead, putting components in place like plenty of vending machines will leave you ready for that growth.

An Ongoing Project

You can carefully consider the points above when determining how many vending machines to add to your building, but preparation only goes so far. At some point, you’ll need to put the plan into action and then see how it plays out in the real world. One of the best things about working with InReach on this project is the attention we will pay to the effectiveness of your vending program once it is in place. If your business continues to scale and reaches 100 – 200 employees or more, adding a micro market may be a great match for your needs. Whatever is required to serve your people, the InReach team will be here to support your growth.
